Derwent2 Derwent Hunter is a 90ft Timber Topsail Schooner. Built in 1945 in Port Cygnet Tasmania, Derwent Hunter was purchased by the CSIRO in 1950. The vessel was assigned by the CSIRO to sail and fish the continental shelf. During this time she conducted oceanographic fisheries research where she discovered the deepest underwater trench in the Pacific as well as the highest underwater mountain between here and New Zealand. Both were named after this fine vessel. Now retired to the Whitsundays, she really is a magnificent vessel.

The opportunity now exists for you to enjoy a piece of Australian high seas history. You are invited to join the crew aboard the magnificent 90ft Schooner “Derwent Hunter” as she carries you as far away from the normal humdrum of life as you desire. Sit back, relax and be pampered and have the sailing adventure of a lifetime, on one of the last truly classical Australian trading Schooners.

The “Derwent Hunter” boasts five comfortable separate cabins, with the feel of yesteryear. Join the crew and help sail, or just sit back and enjoy the magic of the Whitsundays National Park aboard one of Australia’s most revered tall ships.
